Heat Things Up With Bikram Yoga

Bikram yoga is one of the most popular and traditional forms of yoga practiced in the United States. During a traditional Bikram class at iMatrix Yoga Division in San Diego, we guide you through a series of 26 poses in a methodical and flowing manner. Our classes encourage deep breathing, physical stability, increased focus, balance and mindfulness, often helping to relieve stress while keeping your body active.

The practice of Bikram Yoga is great for mental health and is beneficial for weight loss. Bikram classes are often referred to as hot yoga. Unlike some other forms of yoga, Bikram courses cannot be taught just anywhere. That is because during a Bikram class our iMatrix Yoga Division yoga studio is heated to about 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The hot temperature of the room encourages your muscles to loosen, for your pores to open and for toxins to leave the body through sweat as you move from one pose to another.

What to Expect from Bikram Yoga

Every Bikram hot yoga course at iMatrix Yoga Division is taught by a certified instructor who understands the mental and health benefits of yoga, and is able to encourage proper movements and healthy growth within the warm studio walls. Your yoga instructor may not follow the movements herself in a Bikram class, but instead recite the movements in order from the front of the room while watching to ensure that you and your fellow class members are safely and properly moving from pose to pose. When you come to a Bikram yoga course at iMatrix Yoga Division, remember to bring a towel and to hydrate before, during and after. During the course of the class you will sweat a lot, and yoga mats often become slippery when wet.

Benefits of Bikram

The excessively high heat of Bikram yoga will cause you to sweat a great deal, but weight loss isn’t the only reason why the room is heated as it is. Thanks to the high temperature, Bikram encourages enhanced concentration. As you move from pose to pose in hot yoga you cannot think solely about the heat, and you cannot let your mind wander far from it either. The heat encourages mindfulness, increased focus and stress reduction. At the end of a standard Bikram yoga course it is not surprising to feel that the entire course went by in a matter of minutes, when in actuality a Bikram course is about 90 minutes long.

Bikram yoga is one of the most popular forms of yoga in the United States thanks to its weight loss benefits. The poses in hot yoga can be easily modified to accommodate any fitness level. As long as you do not attempt to take on too much, too quick, Bikram yoga with a certified instructor at iMatrix Yoga Division in San Diego can be a good form of yoga for beginners, as well as those who are more advanced.
